KEARNEY - On September 28, 2012 an officer from the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police Detachment was conducting a R.I.D.E.(reduce impaired driving everywhere) program on Rain lake Road, in the Town of Kearney. Shortly after 10PM a motor vehicle pulled up to the RIDE program and the officer detected an odour of alcohol. The driver was directed to pull over for further investigation, but instead the driver accelerated and sped away.
Police immediately patrolled the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
On September 29th officers continued the investigation and located the vehicle and driver at a Kearney residence.
Police arrested and charged Jonathon Depeuter (34) of Hamilton, Ontario with Obstructing Justice Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, as well as Race a Motor Vehicle and Failing to Stop for Police, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
Depeuter was released from police custody and will appear in Court on the 27th of November 2012 in Sundridge Ontario.
