Police have seized a number of weapons after a search warrant was executed early Thursday morning of last week.

On November 7 the North Bay Police Street Crime Unit raided a residence in the 500 block of Main and John Streets after closing them to traffic.

Three people were arrested, two remain in custody.

Police say an investigation allowed them to secure a Criminal Code Search Warrant for the Main Street residence and three occupants at the residence were arrested. The search led to the recovery of stolen property including a stolen mountain bike and a stolen crossbow with arrows that had been reported stolen in early November.

Also seized were three non-restricted firearms with ammunition. A fourth non-restricted firearm had been manipulated in length making it a prohibited firearm.

Main was closed from Regina to John, with John Street blocked off from Main to McIntyre for about an hour. Police unblocked the street around 7 a.m.

Dave McCallum, 40, of North Bay is charged with:

  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order

Jaska Venasse, 35, of North Bay is charged with:

  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order

The third individual at the scene will not face charges related to this incident.

Both McCallum and Venasse have been held for a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
