Canadore is marking the Year of the Horse at its Chinese New Year celebration on Friday.
Close to 180 students and guests will commemorate China’s most important holiday over the course of an evening with delicious food, traditional well-wishes, karaoke and live entertainment.
“The Lunar New Year is one of the biggest and joyous celebrations in the Chinese culture,” said Richard Peters, Vice-President, Finance and Corporate.
“This would typically be a time for family-centered celebrations to honour family, friends and deceased relatives. Canadore is excited to be a part of our students’ heritage.”
Canadore recruits students from all over the world. The College’s international enrolment has grown over the past three years, with nearly 220 students choosing to study at Canadore from Bahamas, Botswana, Brazil, Britain, China, Ecuador, India, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, Trinidad and the United States.
The horse is one of the 12-year cycles of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac and is related to the Chinese calendar.
The snake is also a symbol of travel, competition and victory.
