In a January 29, 2014 letter to the General Chairperson's Association (GCA) representing unionized employees at Ontario Northland, Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle’s encouraged the GCA to continue participating in transformational business plan discussions with the ONTC as a viable option to divestment.
"Mr. Gravelle responded to our most recent letter reaffirming his commitment made to the GCA on December 9, 2013 that the ONTC and GCA develop a transformational business plan for Ontario Northland", said GCA spokesperson Brian Kelly.
"The GCA has written ONTC President Paul Goulet proposing future meeting dates in the coming weeks and the first item on the agenda will be the tele-communications division ONTERA ", continued Kelly.
“We expect that in the absence of bureaucratic interference, we will develop a long term plan that will not only transform and sustain the ONTC, but ensures that all lines of business of the crown agency remain viable and intact. This will allow the 110 year organization to continue as Minister Gravelle desires, providing sustainable and affordable public services for Northern Ontario”, concluded Kelly.
