Grand opening of Camp Caritou

The camp was almost lost in 2010 when local guides lobbied to keep their beloved 42-acre Camp Caritou on Lake Nosbonsing from being sold by the Girl Guides of Canada's Ontario Council

The Friends of Camp Caritou and the Bonfield and District Lions Club are inviting the community to an Open House on Saturday, September 8th.

"Come any time between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.," said Cindy Brownlee, president. "The lawn has been mowed, the lodge has been cleaned and the fire pit is ready for a campfire, so please join us for a tour, activities and lunch as we celebrate the official grand opening of Camp Caritou 63 Development Rd, Bonfield. Ribbon cutting and words of welcome at 11:30."

Camp Caritou is open and operational because of support received from many individuals and organizations.

"We have received donations of equipment, materials, financial support, as well as countless hours from volunteers helping with cleaning, fundraising, skilled labor, and so much more," added Brownlee.

Camp Caritou resumed operations in the fall of 2017 under the new ownership of the Friends of Camp Caritou and the Bonfield and District Lions Club.

"We are working together and are happy to once again be providing opportunities for memorable, meaningful and enjoyable camping experiences for children and youth organizations, adult groups and private rentals and family reunions," said Brownlee.
