Alex Gomm is disappointed with the result but the Nipissing-Timiskaming Green Party candidate is excited to see some of the growth of the party in this election.

Gomm finished fourth in the riding with 2,926 votes with 203 of the 205 ridings finalized, while nationally the Greens finished with 6.5 per cent of the vote.

“I’m glad that we’ve doubled our votes from the last election and that’s fantastic,” said Gomm.

“Nationally we are doing really, really well, the Greens are going to have a strong presence in the house and that is just fantastic.”

Gomm made the trek to the Davedi Club to congratulate Anthony Rota on his victory.  He gave credit to the now five-time Nipissing-Timiskaming Liberal MP.

“I think there is a lack of familiarity but I think there is also recognition of Anthony’s work in the community and district,” Gomm said.

“He has been a very valuable member of parliament as well and he works hard for the riding and that is reflected in the percentage of the vote that he has got.”

The rookie Green Party candidate says he learned to stick to policy and he believes that is what it is about.

“At the end of the day, Canadians want to hear what the parties are going to do.”
