Giroux says he's feeling the orange vibe

'I am telling you that in this election this is going to be one of the closest elections there will be'

For the first time ever, Henri Giroux has had to make a second order for lawn signs because he has run out.

According to Giroux, that is one of the indications that the current PC riding is up for grabs.

“I am telling you that in this election this is going to be one of the closest elections there will be,” said Giroux.

“It will be between me and Vic Fedeli and I think he is a little bit afraid right now because people are telling me that they are not going to vote for Doug Ford.  And I remind them, a vote for Vic Fedeli, is a vote for Doug Ford.”

Giroux and John Vanthof, NDP candidate for Timiskaming-Cochrane, attended a barbecue at the ONR shops organized by the local UNIFOR 103 union.

“The Ontario Northland Railway in Nipissing is a crown jewel. Andrea Horwath and the NDP’s commitment to restoring rail service in Nipissing is resolute and clear,” said Giroux, Nipissing NDP candidate in a release.

Giroux feels that the Liberal vote seems to be swaying his way in Nipissing.  John Vanthof says he is getting the same feeling around the North.

"People are tired of the blame game,” said Vanthof.

“One party calls one party dishonest, then the other party does the same. I think people just want someone that cares about them and represents them and that is what we are trying to do.”

However, Fedeli and the PC's dispute Vanhof's claims about supporting the ONTC.

"John Vanthof and the NDP had the opportunity to stop the Liberal cuts to the Northlander, but they decided to sit on their hands, do nothing, and prop up a politically corrupt government," said Fedeli in an email to BayToday.ca.

"The Ontario PCs are the only ones who can be trusted to stand up for Northern Ontario and bring the Northlander back."

Giroux also was impressed with the numbers from an unscientific election poll done recently on BayToday.ca in mid-May that had Giroux hot on Fedeli’s heels less than 300 online votes behind out of more than 3800 votes.

“I know those polls are not scientific, and I know anyone can vote from wherever, but this time compared to the last time it shows that people are watching and it is not going to be a slam dunk for Vic Fedeli in this riding,” said Giroux.

“That poll was close all the way through and the Liberals were way down.”
