Max Gavin who led the Voodoos to the NOJHL’s final four in his rookie season behind the bench, will be returning officially for the 2019-20 season, the club announced on Friday.

Gavin, who was named an assistant coach to Team NOJHL East for the Eastern Canada Challenge Cup last fall, led the Voodoos to a 33 win regular season and a third place finish in the tight NOJHL East.

"I am thrilled to be back with the Voodoos for another season, I think I can speak for everyone in the organization, that we feel really excited about the upcoming 19/20 season,” said Gavin.

“I learned a lot in my first year in the league, and look forward to building off the success we had last season. Moving forward our goal does not change, we want to win a league championship, and get back to the Dudley Hewitt.”

Gavin appreciates the opportunity he was given coming from Adrian College in Michigan to Powassan.

“I would like to thank GM Chris Dawson, and ownership for their trust in me, and giving me the opportunity to lead the Voodoos once again. Looking forward to seeing everyone at training Camp!"

Voodoos president Jim Bruce feels Gavin is a good fit.

“Max did a fine job in his first year with the Voodoos,” noted Bruce.

“He had a lot to take in as a rookie but what I liked was that he worked well with ownership, his assistant coaches and with our GM.”

Voodoos GM Chris Dawson says he worked well with Gavin and he is pleased to see him back.

“Max is a tireless worker and he is determined to make the team better every day he goes to work,” said Dawson.

“I hope it continues to rub off on our players as we look to get back to a championship in 2019-20.”

The Voodoos are expected to have more personnel and player signings in the coming weeks as the CJHL trade and signing freeze ended on May 31st.
