The Gathering Place was thrilled to receive a generous donation by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 599 West Ferris on Thursday.

The Legion donated 25 homemade meat pies which are enough for at least one full meal at the Gathering Place.

“It may be one of those ones where we can stretch it to two meals or one and a half meals but when you put something like that together with some potatoes and vegetables, that is a really hearty meal for our folks,” said Dennis Chippa, executive director of the Gathering Place.

“It is like a comfort food that our folks don’t get normally. On top of that, the fact they know it is homemade, there has been a lot of effort put into it by someone who doesn’t affiliate with them.

“Our folks always appreciate how much effort other people put to feeding and supporting the Gathering Place so I think that is a big factor in it too.”

The Gathering Place estimates they make as many as 1200 meals weekly.
