Students at WJ Fricker were relocated to Laurentian Learning centre this afternoon due to a gas leak on the roof of the school.

Parents were informed by the Near North School Board this afternoon through a mass email.

"Early this afternoon students from W.J. Fricker were relocated to Laurentian Learning Centre due to a potential gas leak at the school," the email from the NNDSB stated.

"The matter has been investigated and we now have confirmation that there is a broken gas line on the roof at W.J. Fricker. A repair company has been contacted  but the school must remain off limits to staff and students until the repairs are completed."

Busing and dismissal for the school which has students from grade five to eight, has been organized for the same time at Laurentian Learning Centre.

"Students who normally walk home from school will be escorted back to the W. J. Fricker area by staff and will walk home from there," continued the email.

There was also another interruption at the school prior to the gas leak as students took part in a walkout against climate change began around noon today.
