Students from across the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board participated in the 7th annual Bridge Building Contest hosted by the local chapter of the Professional Engineers of Ontario on Friday, March 5 at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School.

Students in grades 5 through 12 submitted small bridges made from only a balsa wood kit and carpenter glue and watched in suspense as local engineers tested their carrying ability by adding increments of weight suspended below them until they collapsed. The event, which coincided with National Engineering Month (NEM), aimed to foster innovation by introducing and discussing real life technical issues faced by modern engineers and gave students the opportunity to interact with local engineers in a casual, fun-filled atmosphere.

Congratulations to the following NPSC students for placing in the top three spots in their categories:

First Place: Team of George Quinby / Kevin Kosturik (SJSH)
Second Place: Team of Peter Feige / Bridget Donnelly (SJSH)
