From the richest to the poorest

The North Bay lawyer—he’s also pastor of Wellspring Christian Fellowship—leaves for the Asian subcontinent next week.

The Voice of Gospel Ministry in Thrissur, capital of the Indian state of Kerala, has invited him and his wife Roz to the country.

“We’re spending three weeks there teaching bible school from Monday to Thursday, doing healing and deliverance services on Friday and preaching in villages in the state Saturdays and Sundays,” McLean said.

Poorest of the poor
The last week of his trip will be spent in Almora, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, in the Himalayan foothills, where McLean and his wife Roz will be guest speakers at a conference.

Prior to going down to Thrissur, though, McLean will spend several days in the Indian capital of Delhi, visiting friends from his student days at Oxford University.

“These are people I haven’t seen in 25 years and they live next door to the Indian prime minister,” McLean said.

“The family is very wealthy and we will be living among the richest of the rich and then going down to minister to the poorest of the poor.”

Always had affinity
While it seems unlikely, McLean said about 3 per cent of the Indian population is Christian.

“That’s what the government says but they’re hard-pressed to give any numbers higher than three percent because it is a Hindu nationalist government.”

McLean said he’s always had an affinity for India.

“I was a member of the India Society at Oxford, and for whatever reason most of my friends were Indian,” McLean said.

“I’ve always wanted to go to India, but the timing has never been right. Now it is and we’re expecting a great adventure.”
