..Freezing rain tonight with a significant accumulation of ice possible..

A winter storm centered south of Sault Ste Marie is expected to cross northeastern Ontario tonight and Wednesday morning. Freezing rain will continue to affect the Nickel Belt until it changes back into snow Wednesday morning with icy roads and traffic accidents due to ice buildup on untreated surfaces. For Manitoulin and regions the freezing rain has changed over to rain.

Meanwhile for regions northwest of the freezing rain warning from Sault Ste Marie and eastern Lake Superior to Chapleau to the Timmins Cochrane and Abitibi areas..Heavy snow will continue tonight with storm totals near 20 centimetres with a few localities possibly receiving up to 30 centimetres. Local ice pellets and freezing rain is also possible although ice accumulations will be insignificant. The heavy snow will end for the Sault Ste Marie area after midnight but persist into Wednesday morning for regions near the Québec border.

The Ontario storm prediction centre of Environment Canada continues to monitor this situation and will update this warning as conditions warrant.
