Free wifi may be just what the doctor ordered to attract more business downtown, and it may be coming in the next couple of weeks.

Computer Doctors owner Sheldon Forgette says he has a verbal understanding with the city to deploy the Wi-fi project, something he's been working on for the past 18 months.

"We have just ordered the equipment for the project and plan to do what's called a 'dry run' before we sign a legal agreement with the City.

"A dry run will allow us to verify that the location we've chosen (Transit Terminal) is the best location to deploy the equipment. What we are hoping from our planning is that Wi-Fi signal will reach the museum, volleyball courts, Farmers Market and up and down Oak St."

Forgette says his company will rent space in the North Bay Transit building on Oak St. to house his equipment. He expects it will take less than a day to set up once the equipment arrives.

After a successful dry run, Forgette will need to sign a legal agreement with the city.

He promises to confirm all the details of that agreement once signed.
