Fraud charges laid after employee snatches cheques

Police have laid charges after arresting a man for defrauding his employer.

Police say that sometime between November 15th and December 2nd, 2015, the man took two blank cheques from his employer’s North Bay business.

Following the theft, the man forged his employer’s signature twice, and then deposited the two forged cheques into his personal bank account, the first time on December 2nd and the second time on December 15th.

The total amount deposited was just under $2,000.

Following the investigation into the theft and fraud complaint that was reported to police on December 22nd, North Bay Police arrested and charged a 30-year old North Bay man yesterday evening with:
  • One count of theft under $5,000;
  • Two counts of make forged document;
  • Two counts of use, deal, acts on forged document; and
  • Two counts of fraud under $5,000.

The man was released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 29th.
