Former North Bay City Managing Director Steve Sajatovic has passed away.

Details on his passing are scarce, but a few local politicians have already expressed their condolences via social media today.

“So very sorry to learn of the passing of North Bay champion Steve Sajatovic,” stated Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

“He was a true friend to North Bay; as a senior employee of the City, and a great supporter of the community.  He was enjoying his retirement, and has left us too soon.”

Mayor Al McDonald says he is really sad to hear of Sajatovic’s passing.

“Steve was Incredibly smart and served our community so well,” said McDonald on Facebook.

“He was a master at getting funding for our city and moving projects forward. He gave his heart and soul to our community. He will be greatly missed by all those that had the great opportunity to work with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Fomer Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin says the loss of Sajatovic is very difficult to contemplate.

"Of all the administrative officers I worked with at City Hall over my 18 years on Council he was one of my favourites. He always placed North Bay first and foremost and was loyal, smart and strategic with all challenges he handled," said Aspin.

No word yet on funeral arrangements.

Sajatovic was only 65.
