A former church located on McKeown Avenue north of North Bay is getting a facelift.

Bethel Gospel Chapel moved to a new church located on Tackaberry Drive in the Pinewood area of North Bay.

That move left the building on the corner of McKeown Avenue and O'Brien vacant all the way back to pre-COVID-19 days.

The City of North Bay told BayToday that the property went through rezoning in 2017 to allow for the conversion of the former church to an apartment building.

First North Enterprise Inc. is responsible for the unique renovations.

City officials say the new apartment complex will have at least a dozen units available to rent.

City officials add that the final approved layout of the site is also slightly different than the concept plan shown during the rezoning.

No word yet on a timeline as to when the project will be complete.
