Former Battalion star shipped to San Jose

The Sharks continue to circle around former members of the Battalion. 

On Wednesday the San Jose Sharks announced they had acquired defenceman Kyle Wood from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for forward Adam Helewka.  

Wood, joins former North Bay Battalion teammates Vincent Praplan and Barclay Goodrow, while Brent Burns played for the Battalion when the team was based out of Brampton.   

Wood has spent the past two seasons with the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League, where he posted 62 points (17 goals, 45 assists) and 32 penalty minutes in 117 games.

"He was an AHL All-Star in his first professional season and we think his game will continue to evolve."
 
In his first full AHL season in 2016-17, the six-foot-five, 235-pound blueliner recorded 43 points (14 goals, 29 assists) and was selected to the AHL Rookie Team and to the AHL All-Star Game, where he won the hardest-shot competition.   

Wood, with his booming shot, led Tucson in power-play goals and led team defensemen in points, finishing third amongst all AHL rookie defensemen in points, tied for first in goals, and fourth in assists.
 
The 22-year-old was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the third round (84th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.  He was acquired by Arizona on Feb. 29, 2016 from Colorado along with Connor Bleackley and Alex Tanguay in exchange for Mikkel Boedker.

The Waterloo, Ontario product spent the last three-plus seasons in Brampton and North Bay where he racked up 27 goals and 66 assists for 93 points in 165 games.
