It looks like Battalion fans will still have a reason to cheer for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

According to Sportsnet's Elliote Friedman, Nick Paul has agreed to a seven-year contract extension which is expected to pay him just over $3 million per season.

Before the signing, Paul was expected to be an unrestricted free agent on July 13.

Paul was shipped to the Tampa Bay Lightning from the Ottawa Senators before the 2022 trade deadline.

The former Battalion star scored five goals and 14 points in 21 regular-season games with the Lightning, along with netting 11 goals and 18 points in 59 regular-season games with the Senators.

In the post-season with Tampa, Paul scored five goals and four assists in 23 playoff games and of course scored the heart-breaking series-winning goal in the clinching game over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the playoffs.

Paul ironically filled a similar role as a reliable two-way forward that was provided by former Battalion captain Barclay Goodrow who was acquired at the trade deadline from the Lightning in 2020 and proceeded to win a pair of Stanley Cups with the Bolts before departing for free agency to the New York Rangers in the summer.
