Five charged after crashing stolen vehicle

OPP have laid a slew of charges after a vehicle that was travelling at almost 200 km/h crashed on Highway 17E near the intersection with Centennial Cres.

It was on Sunday afternoon that Powassan officers got a traffic complaint about an erratic dark Grey VW car driving dangerously on Highway 11 in Powassan. 

Officers found the vehicle and clocked it at almost twice the posted speed limit of 100 km/h. 

The car fled from officers but was found a short time later on Highway 17 at the Centennial Cres. turnoff. It was on its roof with witnesses saying that the five occupants had escaped.

Officers found two of the occupants quickly with help from the OPP Canine Unit, and later were able to locate the three other occupants

The vehicle had been reported stolen from Toronto earlier in the day. 

All five occupants were arrested at the scene and taken to hospital with minor injuries. 

They face numerous charges.

Lovepreet Aulakah, a 25 year old male from Brampton, was charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. He was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay. 

Anab Barre, a 26 year old female from Toronto, was charged with:

  • Two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and
  • four counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

She was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay. 

Hardeep Gill, a 25-year-old male from Caledon, was charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. He was released on a Recognizance of Bail. 

Stephanie Jones, a 35-year-old female from Cochrane, was charged with:

  • Two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by an Officer in Charge. 

She was released on an Undertaking Given by a Justice.

Tejinder Randhawa, a 34-year-old male from Brampton, was charged with:

  • Two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Flight While Pursued by Police Officer
  • Fail to Stop at the Scene of  an Accident
  • Driving While Disqualified
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance 

He was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay.
