First forest fire of the season reported April 5th

The Northeast Region responded to five fires so far this fire season. Bancroft 1, reported on April 15, was called out at 3.0 hectares. Parry Sound 1, this summer's first fire, was reported on April 5 and called out at 0.1 hectares. North Bay 1, near Mattawa, was called out at 0.1 hectares. Sudbury 1 and 2 were both called out at 0.4 hectares.

With the recent snowfall throughout parts of the region and the forecasted rain this weekend, the fire hazard is expected to remain low in the northeast region.

Fire Ranger crew leader training continues with a focus on safety and leadership.

Wildfire Prevention Week began April 17 and ends April 23, 2011.

Forest fire danger in Ontario can be hazardous any time of the year, so everyone needs to be careful with fire. Composting, chipping and removal to approved disposal facilities are safer options than burning.
