Updated Fire sends man to hospital

Fire officials say the cause was grease catching fire on a stove, and that the man had fallen asleep.

The fire victim has been taken to the burn unit of Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with burns to over 50 percent of his body.The burn centre is a state-of-the-art facility providing tertiary care for the majority of burn injury patients in the province.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders says the Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate because of the serious nature of the injuries.

Saunders says the owner of the hotel had mostly extinguished the fire when firefighters arrived. Firefighters rendered immediate first aid to the victim prior to the arrival of the ambulance.

Fire Station #3 was called to small cottage fire at 8:30 last evening at the Glenwood Motel at 467 Lakeshore Drive.

A man was taken to hospital with serious burns.
