Fire contained at Hopper's on McKeown Ave Update

Deputy Fire Chief Brian Hunt tells BayToday this morning that the fire crews were called out to Hopper Buick GMC car dealership on McKeown Avenue just after 10pm Friday night for a structure fire.

Hunt says firefighters located the fire to a truck in a bay of the body shop.

“The truck was fully involved and there was a lot of heavy smoke in the building,” he explains.

“They started an aggressive positive pressure attack and contained the fire to the truck.”

“They put the fire out quickly but it took a long time to clear the smoke.”

The Deputy Fire Chief says no one was in the building at the time and they believe the fire started in the vehicle; however, the cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time

Damage is pegged at about $300,000.

“There was a lot of smoke damage,” he notes.

“The area where the fire was will be shut down but the fire restoration crew was able to get in there and cleaned up the show room last night. So they should be open.”

He notes North Bay Fire and Emergency cleared the scene at about 1:45am Saturday morning.

North Bay Firefighters are on the scene of a car fire at Hopper Buick GMC car dealership on McKeown Avenue.

While the scene is under investigation, BayToday learned that there was quite a bit of smoke billowing through the building just after 11pm Friday night when Fire and Emergency crews arrived; however, the fire was contained to a vehicle in one of the back bays of the garage, was extinguished quickly and did not spread to the building.
