Fire Chief: 'Everyone out safe' after kitchen fire in multi-floor building

One North Bay woman was treated at the scene then transported to NBRHC by District of Nipissing Paramedics as a precautionary measure related to smoke inhalation

One North Bay woman was treated at the scene and then transported to North Bay Regional Health Centre by Nipissing District Paramedics as a precautionary measure related to smoke inhalation.

This, following a stove fire in a second-floor apartment of a multi-floor building in the 100-block of Worthington Street West, Wednesday morning, according to North Bay Fire Chief Jason Whiteley.

Whiteley confirms the woman will be temporarily displaced from her apartment after the fire spread into the cupboards above the stove, creating thick smoke that fire crews were still working to clear out Wednesday morning. The call came in just before 9 a.m.

NBFES contained the blaze to the apartment and extinguished the flames. Whiteley said firefighters would inspect the area to ensure the fire had not travelled up into the walls and ceilings.

The second-floor apartments were cleared and many other residents found refuge in the parking lot next to Sovereign Court, waiting for the OK to go back inside.
