A home on McKeown Avenue on the North end of the city has sustained significant damage from a fire which was called in around 4 a.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders says when they arrived on scene they encountered a home that was fully involved in flame.
“The fire had already self-vented through the living room window,” said Saunders as all three stations responded to the fire.
“Fire crews utilized a positive pressure fire attack and were able to successfully extinguish the fire. Unfortunately, significant damage had already occurred.”
One resident was home at the time of the fire but Saunders says fire alarms alerted the resident and allowed her to evacuate the home and call 911. Two cats were also successfully rescued from the home.
“One cat is fine while the other was provided oxygen on the scene and brought to a local veterinarian for further treatment,” said Saunders.
“There is no word on how that cat is doing.”
Saunders added the blaze is not considered suspicious in nature, but the cause is still under investigation.
