North Bay Fire and Emergency Services is temporarily lifting the fire ban effective Sunday afternoon, says the department's deputy chief responsible for operations and training.

"Given the rain that we received yesterday and the fact that this is a long weekend, North Bay Fire is comfortable with temporarily lifting the fire ban that is in effect," said deputy fire chief Greg Saunders in an email to BayToday.

"The fire rating is still high so please remember to burn according to the conditions set your in your mandatory burning permit," he added.

Saunders said to keep your fire small and ensure that you have a means of extinguishing the fire always present.

"Never leave your fire unattended and ensure the fire is completely extinguished when you are finished," he said.

The ban may go back into effect again in the near future if we do not see significant rain, said Saunders.

"Enjoy your weekend but if you are going to have a fire please do so responsibly," he said.
