The fire ban in North Bay has been lifted but remains in other area municipalities.

"Given the rain that we received yesterday and the fact that this is a long weekend North Bay Fire is comfortable with temporarily lifting the fire ban that is in effect," said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders.

The ban may go back into effect again in the near future if we do not see significant rain. The fire rating is still high so please remember to burn according to the conditions set in your mandatory burning permit.  Remember to keep your fire small and ensure that you have a means of extinguishing the fire always present.  Never leave your fire unattended and ensure the fire is completely extinguished when you are finished.  Enjoy your weekend but if you are going to have a fire please do so responsibly."

There are four active fires across the Northeast.

Chapleau 3 was discovered on May 18 and is under control at 2 hectares, it’s located east of Foleyet.

Parry Sound 8 was discovered on May 18 and is under control at 1.9 hectares, it’s located west of Little Blackstone Lake.

Sudbury 12 was discovered on May 18 and is under control at 2.7 hectares, it’s located north of Capreol.

Wawa 4 was discovered on May 18 and is under control at 7.6 hectares, it’s located northeast of Pukaskwa National Park.

The forest fire hazard is generally low to moderate across the region.
