The Gateway Theatre Guild celebrates its fifty-sixth anniversary today, and kicked-off the party with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new home in the North Bay mall.

President Lara Roberts said the guild has been around for a “long time.”

“Our mandate is to get the community involved so the GTG lasts well into the future.”

Roberts said people can join the GTG for only $20, and the membership provides the opportunity to work on or off stage, attend annual meetings, and provide ideas for upcoming productions.

About 40 people attended the official opening and a rehearsal of the next GTG production, play Elizabeth Rex, was put on to entertain the crowd.

“I am happy with the turnout of people and I just love what is happening here,” Roberts said.

“We love our new home, and it’s perfect because we can have everything in one place.”

Sets can be built, as well as all the props, and costumes can be stored all in the new location, Roberts added.
Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota was on hand to cut the ribbon.
