The North Bay Police Services Board will elect a new chairperson next month.

Current chairman William Ferguson has completed his provincial appointment, overseeing his final board meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Ferguson, who spent six years on the board and succeeded former chairman Colin Vezina Jan. 8, 2002, called his tenure “interesting.”

“When I first started on the board we hadn’t had the expansion addition to the service building, which has now been completed, the IT infrastructure was pretty much out of date and that’s all been updated in that period of time,” Ferguson said.

“Of course we’ve gone through the whole process of implementing the adequacy and effectiveness standards, which have been new in recent years.”

Ferguson worked with three different police chiefs on the board, he said, Ron Nagle, George Berrigan and Paul Cook.

“It’s been a pleasure working with them,” Ferguson said.

While he has enjoyed his term on the board, Ferguson said he looks forward to moving on to other things.

“It’s the natural flow of things and it’s time for other people to come on board,” Ferguson said.

“We have an excellent service led by a very capable chief in Paul Cook and the future’s going to be bright, and I know the service will be well served.”
