The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors, is on a mission.

She says Prime Minister Trudeau has asked her to travel across the country to meet with seniors and their families and supporting organizations to hear how the government can build on efforts to help seniors.

Wednesday she was in North Bay visiting Cassellholme and Canadore.

"In this area isolation is definitely one concern as a top priority," Tassi told CKAT. The New Horizons program was given as an example to combat that. It's a part-time personal life management program for adults with developmental disabilities dealing with immediate and long-term needs.

There was also a meet and greet with the oldest person in Canada, 113-year-old Cassellholme resident Dolly Gibb.

Tassi says it’s important that all governments work together for the betterment of seniors and that includes provincial and municipal governments.

At Canadore she had a tour of the new Village project and said she’s impressed with what’s going on there and the plans to connect seniors with young people.

“To allow the youth to have the ability to recognize the amazing contributions, insight, wisdom, sense of humour that seniors have is a model for the country,” she says.
