Fedeli celebrates 'orange crush'

'We have been looking across the aisle for almost seven years and just know that we can do so much better for Ontario, so much better for Ontario’s North'

A confident Vic Fedeli predicted a PC majority earlier today and tonight the province and the people of Nipissing made good on his prediction.

The Nipissing PC candidate continued to increase his vote total from the previous two elections by gathering 17,598 votes with NDP candidate Henri Giroux well behind at 12,994 with all 81 polls reporting.

Vic and his wife Patti arrived at around 9:45 p.m. to a gathering at the Davedi Club after polls clearly showed that he was on his way to victory.

“The people saw a very clear choice, they knew the PCs would offer a path to prosperity and that is why you see a strong PC majority and I’m looking forward to getting back to Toronto and rolling up my sleeves and getting to work for the people of Nipissing,” Fedeli told the media.

It will be a unique situation for Fedeli, this time he will not be a member of the opposition party.

“We have been looking across the aisle for almost seven years and just know that we can do so much better for Ontario, so much better for Ontario’s north starting with bringing back passenger rail and developing the Ring of Fire, those are real key priorities for me personally for the North but mostly to deliver on our promises,” said Fedeli.

“We promised the people real relief, families are hurting and they need that relief and Doug Ford and the PC’s are going to deliver on that to Nipissing families and all of them in Ontario.”

Fedeli says he never paid attention to the polls which at one time early in the campaign indicated the NDP and PC were neck and neck.

“I have never followed the polls and I have always said I follow one poll and that is on election night so I have never followed the ups and downs of the polls,” said Fedeli.

“I knocked on doors every single night unless I was at a debate and even then we still managed to knock on some doors so for us it was just building momentum in Nipissing.

“We did far better than we did in the 2014 election so that says to me that the people of Nipissing, they wanted to see a PC majority, they know how important it was to have a strong voice at Doug Ford’s table and they knew I would be one of the strong voices in the North and Nipissing delivered and now it is my turn to deliver to Nipissing.”

It was a sweet moment for Fedeli, especially how things started on the campaign trail with the party dealing with the Patrick Brown scandal and the constant criticism of the party for selecting Ford as its leader.

“My wife will tell you that I never remember anything bad, I only remember the good things and I will tell you that that experience with those two for me in the short period I was the interim leader of the official opposition was a real highlight of my political life and a stepping stone to what I hope will be an even bigger and better political career,” said Fedeli.
