Vic Fedeli and the Ford PC’s unveiled a plan today that would see the introduction of a new childcare tax rebate for parents of children under 15 years of age.

Fedeli made the announcement outside the North Bay DayCare located along Fisher Street in North Bay.

“For some families, childcare is something completely out of touch,” Fedeli said.

“Only the PC party has a plan to put more money in people’s pockets. It starts here today with the Ontario Child Care Rebate,” he added.

The PC plan promises that the Ontario Child Care Rebate will cover up to 75 percent of the family’s childcare expenses, Fedeli says that is up to $6,750 per year, per child up to the age of 15, with low-income families receiving the most support.

Fedeli notes that their party plan covers up to age 15, while the other parties only support children between the ages of 2 to 4 years old.

“Parents of older children receive no support at all,” Fedeli says comparing their program to the child care stances of the other parties.

“Our plan offers greater flexibility to parents, including flexibility to use licensed and independent daycare along with nannies and babysitters,” said Fedeli noting that it depends if the parent is going back to work.

“This puts the families at the centre of our daycare plan.”

Fedeli says the government will be able to afford this economic boost to families primarily by cutting corporate welfare in the province.

“When you see companies that are getting cheques to 200 or 300 million dollars a year from the government - mostly insiders by the way - all that corporate welfare is cancelled, that announcement has been made,” Fedeli said noting that does not include regional development programs such as the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
