UPDATED: Fatal collision closes highway 17 west

On December 11, at approximately 4:40 am members from the Manitoulin and Espanola Detachments of the OPP with the assistance of the Sudbury-Manitoulin District Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and the Baldwin Fire Department responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17 east of McKerrow.

 The driver of the motor vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene, she has been identified as 26 year old Samantha QUICK from Sudbury, Ontario.

  Highway 17 was closed for approximately 5 hours before being opened to one lane. Road and weather conditions were not a factor. The OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) continue to assist with the investigation.

OPP say Highway 17 West, just east of Mckerrow in Baldwin Township near the Espanola turnoff, has been closed this morning as a result of a two-vehicle collision.

The accident happened around 4:40 this morning.

Preliminary information is that an eastbound passenger vehicle collided with a westbound transport truck. The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Manitoulin and Espanola Detachments of the OPP with the assistance of the Sudbury-Manitoulin District Emergency Medical Services and the Baldwin Fire Department responded to the collision.

The OPP Technical Collision Investigators are at the scene and are continuing to investigate.
