Environment Canada continues an extreme cold warning issued for today:

  • North Bay - West Nipissing,
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity,
  • New Liskeard - Temagami,
  • Burk's Falls - Bayfield Inlet,
  • Deep River - Whitney - Eastern Algonquin Park
  • Huntsville - Baysville,
  • Parry Sound-Muskoka
  • Témiscamingue
  • Kirkland Lake

A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected. High minus 22. Wind chill minus 42 in the morning and minus 33 in the afternoon. Risk of frostbite.

Tonight, Low minus 32. Wind chill minus 33 in the evening and minus 44 overnight. That's close to the record -33.3 set in 1946.

This bitterly cold Arctic airmass will remain in place through the weekend.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with a wind chill.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
