It's nearly the end of the line for Dan and Simon Dube, the father-son duo we’ve all been following since they hopped on the train in Sudbury a few weeks ago for the French reality TV show ‘A Fond De Train.’ Since their debut on the show in the Toronto challenge, the father-son team has moved on to Ottawa, pushed through Quebec, and this Saturday, are now moving on to Moncton, New Brunswick, as the penultimate city before the finale in Halifax—if they can win this weekend.

In the cross-country competition, two duos compete starting in Vancouver and ending in Halifax with many stops in between. Dube and his son landed their shot to compete, jumping on the train in Sudbury. The catch: the winners get back on the train to face a new duo, while the losers go back home.

Dube said, as they neared the end of the tracks, they felt a confidence solidified by their wins—now with three solid victories on the show since they stepped onto the train.

“I think the feeling changed from pressure to win to confidence,” he said. “Not in a cocky way, but we felt that we had this competition. Maybe Moncton was a wake-up call, you’ll see,” he teased. “It was challenging. Moncton was a different beast because I had never really been there. It was a different challenge going to a place where you had no real idea. I had more studying to do. People will feel the suspense.”

Dube said their train ride from Quebec to Moncton was the longest they had, almost like a calm before the storm for what might be their hardest challenge yet as they continued further and further from home. Further and further from familiar cities and landscapes.

And to secure the wins they have so far, Dan and Simon Dube must have been doing something right.

“I think the comment we get from a lot of people is we have a good complicity,” Dube said. “If I miss something he catches it and vice versa. People tell us we work well together. Also, I think we’re built the same way, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” he said with a laugh. “There is certainly a sense of pride to do that and see that we matched well in there. There is also the sense of what we’re doing with our son is good.”

The next stop on their journey, Ottawa will be airing this Saturday morning on Unis TV—Cogeco 530/560, Bell Fibe 141/1141, Bell Satellite et Telus 150, Shaw et Shaw Direct 741—for those with French-language packages, as well as on their website Saturday afternoon for a week afterward.

So make sure to tune in to see how far Dan Dube and his son Simon make it on the cross-country ride.
