The Labour Market Group (LMG) is pleased to present the results of its 2015 EmployerOne survey.  This year’s survey garnered 201 completed surveys from employers in the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts-a significant increase from 2014.

In July of 2015, employers across various industries were asked to complete the second annual EmployerOne survey.  The questions in the survey are specific to the current and projected needs of local businesses.  The questions garnered information on workplace demographics, projected vacancies, recruitment strategies and challenges, as well as employer perspectives on candidate skills, education and training.

Stacie Fiddler, Executive Director for the Labour Market Group believes that ‘the information from this survey is invaluable.  It not only benefits employers but employment service providers, education/training organizations and job-seekers.’  She adds that ‘while we already engage employers in a number of ways, hearing right from various industries about their specific labour market needs helps provide us with a more evidenced based picture of what is real and what is not.’   Although the Labour Market Group uses various data sources to produce their annual local labour market report, Fiddler feels that ‘the results of the survey help to shed more light on what skills local industries really need and what concerns they have about their current and future workforce. “

All 6 Workforce Planning Boards across Northern Ontario have gone a step further, to produce a Northern Ontario EmployerOne report which consolidates EmployerOne surveys from all of across the North.  Overall, 829 Northern Ontario employers responded to the 2015 survey representing approximately 18% of all employed residents in Northern Ontario; in other words, when combined, they represent 62 456 employees across the North.

Both reports in their entirety can be found on LMG’s website
