Another local player is hoping to make his Ontario Hockey League debut if the league is able to successfully run a short spring 2021 hockey season.

North Bay's Lucas Edmonds has signed a contract for the season with the Kingston Frontenacs.

Lucas has been playing professionally in Sweden during the 2020-21 season for Kristianstad IK and Karlskrona HK. In 35 combined games played during the 2020-21 season, he has 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points.

Edmonds was also part of Sweden's World Junior team the final tournament before the Worlds in November which was shut down early due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

"I am very excited to continue my season with Kingston as my season in Sweden just finished up missing the playoffs on the second last game of the season," Edmonds told BayToday.

"Paul McFarland has coached in the NHL the past three seasons and most recently with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season and that will be exciting to play for him. He was the coach when Kingston drafted me and then he left that summer for the Florida Panthers."

Edmonds, a 5’11”, 183 lbs. forward, was selected by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 7th round, 131st overall at the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

“We are very excited to add Lucas to our program. He will instantly add skill and experience to our top 6 forward group. His habits, work ethic, and the experience of playing professionally this season in Sweden will be a great resource for our young core of players.” said Fronts General Manager/Head Coach, Paul McFarland in a release.

Edmonds, who turned 20 in January,  has dual citizenship in Canada and Sweden. In 2016, Lucas moved to Sweden to join Frölunda HC of the U16 Elite League. Last season, in the U20 junior league, Lucas had 22 goals and 51 points while playing for Växjö Lakers HC.

The talented winger has two years of eligibility remaining to play in Kingston.

Edmonds arrives in Canada this week and has to self isolate/ quarantine for 14 days before heading to Kingston to start skating again on April 1.
