After weeks of hard-fought challenges across eastern-Canada, the father-son duo, Dan and Simon Dube finally arrived at the city of Halifax, last stop in their run on the French reality TV show ‘A Fond De Train.’ Since they started in Sudbury, the two have won in Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, and Moncton before getting off the train in Halifax.

In the cross-country competition, two duos compete starting in Vancouver and ending in Halifax with many stops in between. Dube and his son landed their shot to compete, jumping on the train in Sudbury. The catch: the winners get back on the train to face a new duo, while the losers go back home.

Dube said reaching Halifax was always the plan, but they didn’t want to just end up there, they wanted to win the last challenge, remaining undefeated in their run on the show.

“We weren’t satisfied just to get there, we wanted to win every race we played in, be at our best in the competition,” Dan said. But it was almost a wake-up call in Moncton, when Dan and Simon barely pulled the win against the other team, with only 15 seconds to spare. The duo was nearly sent packing back to North Bay but raced ahead to take the victory.

“After the first part of the show we were ahead quite a bit,” Dan said. “We couldn’t find one of the spots, this one theater I didn’t even know it existed, so we had to find the place and they were right on our tail by the time we found it.

“On the run to the last spot where they announce the winner, we were on parallel streets with the other team and we left just ahead of them. One of the rules of the race was you couldn’t cross anywhere on a street, only at the lights. When we went down the street to the finish, we were on a street with a light and they were not.”

And for them it was a relief, setting them on the path to the last city, but being on the rails so long away from home continued to take its toll, the long competitions in the heat making their final day in Halifax a challenge.

But it wasn’t all difficult in Halifax, as the two arrived there for their first times ever, getting a little bit of time to appreciate the city itself.

“It was our first time there and what a nice city,” he said. “It was so lively in Halifax. We got there fairly late the day before so we got to walk the city when the sun was down. There are a lot of interesting places we visited, and you’ll see how exciting it gets in the second half of the race.”

The final stop on their journey, Halifax will be airing this Saturday morning on Unis TV—Cogeco 530/560, Bell Fibe 141/1141, Bell Satellite et Telus 150, Shaw et Shaw Direct 741—for those with French-language packages, as well as on their website Saturday afternoon for a week afterward.

So make sure to tune in to see how far Dan Dube and his son Simon can win the last challenge in their race on A Fond De Train.
