An e-bike driver in Elliot Lake faces charges of impaired driving after being stopped, but it appears his conduct didn't help his case.

On Friday, shortly before 7 p.m., East Algoma OPP officers responded to a possible impaired driver on an e-bike riding the streets of Elliot Lake.

Police found the e-bike with two male occupants on it using the motor to travel uphill.

"The officer pulled in behind the e-bike and observed it to be weaving," said Constable Bev Gauthier in a news release, "The officer activated the emergency lights on his cruiser and hit the horn several times to get their attention. The driver of the e-bike put his left hand in the air and extended his middle finger at the officer."

The e-bike pulled over and eventually stopped.

The male driver was arrested and taken to the OPP Detachment where there was a qualified breath technician on duty. The cyclist provided a breath sample of over 150 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

As a result of the investigation, Marcus Kitchen, 32, from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood,
