Drugs and weapons seized after traffic complaint

 A number of drug and weapons charges have been laid against two people were arrested after police responded to a traffic complaint.

On March 22 at 5 p.m., Temiskaming OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Baker Street in Cobalt where they found two people in a vehicle.

Police say an investigation determined that the driver had consumed controlled substances and was arrested and taken to the Temagami Detachment to conduct further tests.

Officers seized over $6,500 worth of Fentanyl and cocaine along with several weapons.

The driver, Jean-Charles Menard, 35, of Temiskaming Shores is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of schedule I substance - cocaine
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Two counts of failing to comply with a release order

Menard's driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Jocelyn Deblois, 30, of Timmins is charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of schedule I substance - cocaine
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Both remain in custody pending a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 24 in Temiskaming Shores.
