Drug charge laid after death in East Ferris

OPP have laid charges against a local man after they were called to help paramedics last Thursday with a person who had just died.

On August 15, North Bay Detachment officers were called at 2:30 a.m. to a house in East Ferris where a 32-year-old man from Orillia was pronounced dead at the scene.   

As a result of the police investigation, Eric Champagne 29, of East Ferris has been arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking a Schedule I Substance, and
  • Two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. 

Champagne was released on a recognizance of bail to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on August 27. 

The investigation is continuing by the North Bay OPP Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Kurtis Fredericks of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

The Office of the Chief Coroner-Ontario Forensic Pathology Service is also engaged in this investigation.
