Drowning victim identified as West Nipissing man

A man was seen sitting on a chair on a wooden raft when the chair broke

A man that drowned Sunday on the Sturgeon River has been identified as Marcel Joseph Morin, 57, from West Nipissing,

Police say that on July 1, at approximately 3:10 p.m. a man was seen sitting on a chair on a wooden raft when the chair broke and he fell into the river.

Yesterday at approximately 2 p.m. the OPP recovered a body in the Sturgeon River and confirmed it to be the same man that fell from the raft.

A post-mortem examination of Morin is scheduled for Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service.

Members of the OPP North Bay Detachment Marine Unit, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Unmanned Aerial System and Aviation Services, as well as the West Nipissing Police Service, West Nipissing Fire Service, and Emergency Medical Services, responded to the drowning.
