An interesting traffic stop for local police on Algonquin Ave. yesterday.

They tried to stop a car for a traffic violation just before 10 a.m. but the driver did not stop the vehicle as directed until eventually, he drove into a parking lot on a side street.

When they investigated, they found the man was under five different driving prohibitions. And when they tried to arrest him, police say he assaulted the officer.

Following the arrest, a search of the driver resulted in the seizure of approximately six grams of suspected cocaine.

The Jeep Cherokee the motorist was driving has been impounded as a result of the offences committed.

Arrested is Jason Hansman, 36, of North Bay. He is charged with:

  • Failing to stop for police;
  • Assaulting a police officer;
  • Possession of cocaine; and
  • Five counts of driving while prohibited.

Hansman will appear in the North Bay Courthouse today for a bail hearing.

He's well known to police.
