A driver who pulled into a parking lot before going through a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on Highway 17 in North Bay was charged.
On September 23 just before 3 a.m., North Bay OPP were participating in a RIDE check when they saw an oncoming vehicle that pulled into a parking lot.
In speaking to the driver, it was determined that he had consumed alcohol.
The driver was issued the Mandatory Alcohol Screening demand, arrested for impaired driving, and taken to the North Bay Detachment of the OPP for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Clayton Johnson, 19, from South River is charged with:
- Novice driver - Blood Alcohol Concentration above zero
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration over 80
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.
Johnson was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on October 24.
He was also served a 90-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Meanwhile, a driver traveling through a RIDE check on McCool Street in Mattawa was charged.
On September 16 just after 9 p.m., Mattawa OPP were participating in a RIDE check when they stopped a Utility Terrain Vehicle.
The driver was issued the Mandatory Alcohol Screening demand, arrested for impaired driving, and transported to the North Bay Police Service for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey Czech, 48, from Mattawa was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration over 80 and operation while impaired.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on November 14.
