Police seeking video of Manitoulin school assault. Charges laid.

OPP are hoping someone took video of a brawl that broke out at a Manitoulin Secondary School on Friday, involving more than 50 students, both male and female.

The fight resulted in five youths and one adult being charged so far. The school was put under a hold and secure shortly after noon on Friday.

It apparently stemmed from an argument between a pair of students outside the school and quickly escalated with racial overtones.

The fight lasted an hour despite efforts by teachers to intervene.

Parents of the students also became involved and the OPP have laid a charge against one adult.

OPP, in a news release, say they have chargec:

A 38-year-old woman from M'Chigeeng First Nation with assault,

A 14-year-old youth from M'Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm. and Assault.

A 13-year-old youth from M'Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.

A 16-year-old youth from M'Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with Assault.

A 17-year-old youth from M'Chigeeng First Nation has been charged with Assault.

The adult and youths, who cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have been released and are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Court of Justice in Gore Bay, on October 31.
