While the OUA/USports season has been over for just over four months, there are more accolades coming for Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team forward Maria Dominico.

Thanks to an outstanding rookie campaign, the North Bay product has earned a spot on the USports team that will compete in the Hockey Canada Showcase from August 2nd to 11th in Calgary.

Dominico and her U SPORTS All-Stars will play four games - two against Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Development Team, and another pair of contests versus Japan’s national women’s program.

This adds to what has already been one impressive year for the former Ice Boltz star.

Dominico was named USports rookie of the year and to the USports All-Rookie team, the OUA rookie of the year, a first-team all-star and a member of the all-rookie team.

She led the Lakers in goals and points, tied for the lead in game-winners and was the lone Laker to record a hat-trick this season.

Dominico finished with 15 goals, 26 points and three game-winning goals, all through 22 games as a first-year player.

Her 15 goals put her tied for the league lead, while her 26 points placed her second in the OUA.

In fact, Dominico finished sixth in the country in scoring and tied for second in goals.

She had six multi-point games, four games with three points, including the season opener and was held off the scoresheet in just six games.

The speedy forward recorded a point in her first four games this season and finished the season with six points in her final five games.

Her consistency was almost as impressive as her overall success, as she picked up six points in October, November and February, adding five in January and three in December in just two games.

On top of her fantastic regular season, Dominico added four points in five playoff games, as well.

Dominico was especially dangerous on home ice, scoring 10 goals and 17 points, as well as all three game-winners in 12 games at Memorial Gardens.

The team went 2-4-0 in the six games Dominico failed to record a point and she had 22 in the team's 16 wins throughout the year.

The North Bay, ON native has a bright future with the program.
