Domestic dispute leads to assault and DUI charges

Domestic assault charge leads police indirectly to a drug seizure.

A 36-year-old North Bay man is facing a domestic assault charge relating to an incident around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 2nd. 

Police received a 911 call from a witness who told police a woman had just been hit by a man after the couple was involved in an argument. 

The police responded to the call about the Main Street East dispute.  When police arrived the couple had parted ways.  

The man, who left the scene as a passenger in a vehicle before police arrived, was later arrested following a traffic stop conducted on Worthington Street East at Fisher Street. 

He is also accused of causing minor damage to the holding cell area of North Bay Police Service headquarters after his arrest and while he was being held in custody awaiting his bail hearing.

The 36-year old North Bay man is charged with:

  • One count of domestic assault;
  • Two counts of breach of probation; and
  • One count of mischief under $5000.

North Bay Police also arrested, searched and charged the 33-year old North Bay male driver of the stopped vehicle with:

  • One count of impaired driving;
  • One count of drive with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood; and
  • One count of possession of cocaine.

Police seized as evidence a small quantity of suspected cocaine from the driver, who was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for October 11th, 2016.
