The manner in which these materials have been so carelessly discarded is very concerning to the OPP

Police are issuing a warning about discarded waste. Over the past few weeks, the OPP has responded to a number of reports involving the disposal of waste in ditches, primarily in the Caledon area, east of Orangeville.

When examined, the waste appears to be from a synthetic drug lab and is extremely hazardous says the OPP.

Precautionary measures were immediately undertaken in each incident to secure the area, which then allowed for specialized resources from the OPP and Caledon Fire and Emergency Services to be brought in. By working together, they were able to safely remove the discarded waste.

"The manner in which these materials have been so carelessly discarded is very concerning to the OPP and as a result, the OPP is issuing a public safety warning," said Sergeant Peter Leon. "Should anyone locate any discarded waste products that possess a strong chemical based odour, have solidified or liquid residue and appear similar to the provided photographs, to please contact the OPP immediately. Under no circumstances should any member of the public go near any of these discarded products."

The OPP is encouraging parents to share this message with children during March Break and a soon to be spring season that will bring them back outdoors.

If you have any information on this crime, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122  Any suspicious vehicles or night time dumping should be reported to the OPP.
