The Downtown Improvement Area has hired a city-born woman as its new manager.

Tiiu Vail recently graduated from the University of Ottawa's School of Management.

She replaces John Santarossa, who resigned from the position less than two months into the job.

Vail, says DIA chairwoman Pat Kenzie-Diegel, "is bilingual, fresh with information on current marketing and business practices, having been awarded specializations in both marketing and international management."

She had worked as a promotions assistant for the DIA in 2002.

"She was involved in many aspects of the marketing of North Bay's downtown," said Kenzie-Diegel.

"She is looking forward to injecting a great deal of energy and enthusiasm into the downtown core and feels that it really is an integral part of the North Bay community."
