This caught our attention, especially with all the deliveries being made during the Christmas season.
OPP pulled over this van that was so packed with parcels the driver was blind to the right and could barely see out the front window. The officer stopped this vehicle, near Ottawa, for not being able to see the driver,
"There were numerous Highway Traffic Act offences: no clear view to the front, no clear view to the right, drive while crowded and more," said the OPP on Twitter.
In Ontario, the law regarding being able to clearly see out of your front and side windows falls under Highway Traffic Act section 74(1)(a): No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway,
- unless the windshield and the windows on either side of the compartment containing the steering wheel are in such a condition as to afford the driver a clear view to the front and side of the motor vehicle.
The fine in this case would be $85 for the front window and another $85 for the side window. The HTA also says "No person shall drive a motor vehicle with persons or property in the front or driver's seat so placed as to interfere with the proper management or control of the motor vehicle."
With the Christmas rush, there has been an increase in contracted delivery services and the drivers get paid by the package. As gig workers, they have to use their own vehicles to deliver packages.
